Immunizations

Children in North Carolina are required to have vaccinations completed for certain diseases prior to entering kindergarten.  Getting your child vaccinated helps to prevent disease in your child and helps to limit the spread of infectious diseases that can have serious consequences.

The immunization status of each child on WIC under the age of three years old is evaluated at each WIC appointment.  Parents are encouraged to bring an up-to-date record of their child's immunizations to each WIC appointment.  For children who do not have up-to-date immunizations, parents are encouraged to speak with their child's doctor, or to have immunizations updated while at the Caldwell County Health Department.  Immunizations at the Caldwell County Health Department can be brought up-to-date without making an appointment and may be free of charge for qualifying individuals.

Each time that your child receives any vaccination, you should receive an updated copy of your child's immunization record printed from the NCIR (North Carolina Immunization Registry).   The NCIR is a database maintained by the state of North Carolina that provides accurate information about the immunization status of children in North Carolina to schools, health departments, pediatricians, and other health care providers.
